Why Choose Us?

We provide “wholistic” care:
Care to the whole person.

Women are increasingly looking for alternatives to physicians and large practice, Western-medicine style models of care. We know you have lots of choices when it comes to who you will see for your routine health care.

In addition to nurse practitioners like ourselves, obstetricians, family practice doctors, and naturopaths all provide health care for well women. We like to think we are a sort of middle ground between the medical model provided by doctors, and the alternative model that naturopaths provide. Nurse practitioners/nurse midwives are trained in the medical AND the nursing models of care, and believe in providing ‘wholistic’ care – as in, care to the whole person. We schedule an hour for each yearly exam, wherein we can explore both the physical and emotional aspects of your care. Our providers take the time to delve into our clients’ issues, and come up with treatment solutions that might include physical therapy, pharmaceutical, or surgical options, or might just as likely include cognitive behavioral therapy, dietary changes, acupuncture, herbs, hypnosis, or yoga.

One of our core values is practicing evidence-based care, which means that we stay current on medical research, and recommend treatments that have strong evidence to support their efficacy.

You would be a good fit for our philosophy of care if you are looking for providers who:

  • Take the time to explain the rationale behind their thinking to you, cite the evidence behind their recommendations, and involve you in the medical decision making process – which is what truly informed consent means to us
  • Value transparency both in medical decision-making and in discussing costs of care
  • Spend the entire length of a visit with you, instead of relying on RN’s or MA’s to take vitals, and histories, and/or do assessments.
  • Tend to eschew newer and more expensive drugs that have not been on the market long enough to demonstrate safety and efficacy, relying on more tried-and-true drugs, when needed.
  • Return your phone calls or emails promptly, and answer reasonable questions outside the context of a visit
  • Have office staff who help you navigate the sometimes-confusing world of insurance coverage and can provide clear answers to questions about out-of-pocket cost for care
  • Get to know their clients well, and often share a lot of laughs with them as well as providing medical care.
